Phoenix Eye’s experience has been gained through the management of construction site security for many years.

With margins continuing to tighten, competition for jobs increasing and clients demanding more for their money, contractors are looking to drive down their own costs by using a cost effective and reliable solution.

As a result, site security is evolving and Phoenix Eye is one firm offering contractors not only tighter control of site access but also better visibility of day to day running of projects. Its Biostile system which is currently in use on a number of key sites records a worker’s biometric data- basically a person’s unique fingerprint minutiae – and indentifies them with total accuracy as they pass in and out of site entrances.

Phoenix Eye has designed its Biostile units which use British manufactured turnstile equipment. To activate the turnstile a person must place their fingerprint onto a small unit on the turnstile and if their fingerprint matches the template captured during enrolment they are granted access.

Access Credentials

First and foremost, this affords the main contractor on the job total control over who enters the site and prevents the all-too-common problem of several people working on site under one name. “[When they enter site] we can guarantee a person is who they say they are,” says Phoenix Eye construction business manager Craig White. “Unlike generic systems, the decision is based on having the right credentials and on the policy of the site.” For example during the enrolment processes you can set a workers fingerprint to auto expire for reasons such as their CSCS card will expire on a certain date. You can set the simple to use software to restrict access to personnel on certain shifts meaning they can only gain access through the turnstile within the parameters set by the software administrator.

The time and attendance reports can be compared against invoices, reducing inaccurate payments and wage disputes.

Turnstiles are available in half height, full height, single bi-directional and double with other forms of access such as proximity, pin or multimodal units.

“Having used previous biometric turnstiles on other sites I was a real sceptic when it came to the Biostile. However due to significant cost difference compared to other units we had used; we were willing to give it a go. I and my team were surprised at how well the unit works; on a site with over 200 workers we don't have a single worker who has problems accessing the turnstile. This was a major problem with other hand and fingerprint readers we used in the past. The reporting software is easy to use and provides us with valuable information on the comings and goings of contactors. The installation, customer service and special enrolment training we received from Phoenix Eye was better than any we have received from other companies. I will be using the Biostile System on all my sites!”
